About Me
Joshua Newport is a dedicated weather enthusiast—proudly a “weather nerd”—who builds tools to make radar data easier to access and use.
His interest in weather started about nine years ago with a simple obsession: snow. What began as checking forecasts multiple times a day, nearly year-round, turned into a deeper curiosity about how weather works.
He was first exposed to coding about seven years ago, but didn’t take it seriously until 2023–2024, when he began developing real projects. By 2025, after a radar app he relied on went down during a major severe weather outbreak, he decided to build his own.
That led to StratoCast and the NEXRAD Level II Pipeline. After dealing with how difficult it was to build a radar processing backend, he decided to release it to the open-source community to save others the time and frustration.
Making weather data simple, fast, and reliable.
